Our vineyards

The winery controls approximately 50 hectares of vineyards, distributed in different plots belonging to the Ribera del Duero Denomination of Origin.
Due to differences in altitude and climate, each farm has different optimum ripening dates and is harvested individually.
A large part of Bodegas Peñafiel’s vineyard is made up of old vines, some of which are over 100 years old.

PROVINCE SUBZONE TITLE SUMMARY
BURGOS HONTORIA DE VALDEARADOS Our wine-growing treasure A spectacular patrimony of old vines that ensure every year the grapes destined to our most special and iconic wines.
BURGOS LA HORRA Excellence Hills, gently sloping hillsides on clay loam, reddish-brown, sandy loam soils. Gravel of sedimentary origin at depth and with large variations between plots. Height of 800 m.
BURGOS GUMIEL DE MERCADO Nobility Plot size between 836 and 860 meters. Land oriented mostly to the south, with soft and sandy soils, where sandstone rock outcrops between kermes oak groves.
BURGOS FUENTENEBRO Clay and altitude Our vineyards at higher altitudes (approx. 950 m) ensure good acidity and preservation of fruity notes. The characteristic red color of these soils is provided by the presence of iron oxides. The clays retain a lot of water and, together with good sun exposure (south-facing plots), allow optimum ripening without accentuated water stress.
BURGOS SAN JUAN DEL MONTE Mountain and flowers Located among rockroses, holm oaks and scrubland, these plots at 850 meters provide floral touches and a fine minerality.
BURGOS SANTA CRUZ DE LA SALCEDA Freshness and elegance Slopes and terraces with deep soil, with a diversity of soils (clay-limestone and sandy) and little soil in rocky areas. Height of 881 m.
BURGOS ARANDA DE DUERO Balance At 800 meters above sea level, the complexity of the alluvial soils of the Duero Valley (gravels, sands, silts and light clays) gives a special character to our wines.
VALLADOLID CANALEJAS DE PEÑAFIEL AND PEÑAFIEL TOWER Austerity and finesse The moorlands with altitudes close to 900 m and the climate of the area enhance the aromatic profile of the vines. Poor soils, with little water and good ventilation, favor a natural and healthy production, avoiding pests and diseases.
VALLADOLID PIÑEL DE ARRIBA The essence of limestone Poor limestone soils, with high lime content, which do not retain heat. The grapes ripen slowly and slowly, maintaining a balance between acidity and alcohol, providing elegance and freshness with an attractive floral profile.
VALLADOLID PEÑAFIEL PARAMO Quality At 820 m, these plots remain unwavering in quality. The balance between acidity and alcohol content guarantees an excellent result.
VALLADOLID PEÑAFIEL Our icon on the Golden Mile Viña Rafael is our iconic plot in the heart of the Golden Mile and is located just a few meters from the winery.
